Women's Hockey

After playing an exhibition season in 2022-23, the MHC Women’s Hockey Team made its official ACAC debut in September 2023.  Since that time, the team has made significant strides towards establishing itself as a competitive program in the highly-skilled ACAC league. Rattlers Women’s Hockey continues to build a team that can consistently vie for a league championship

The team starts practicing on the first day after the Labour Day long weekend and plays exhibition games in September. The ACAC Women’s Hockey 25-game regular season begins in October and runs to the end of February; league playoffs are in March. Also, preliminary talks are in progress towards establishing a Canadian College National Women’s Hockey Championship in the near future.

The MHC Women’s Hockey team carries 25 athletes consisting of 12 forwards, 8 defence, and 3 goalies. Twenty players, 18 skaters and 2 goalies, dress for each game. All players must be full-time, eligible registered students at MHC; no affiliation with teams in other leagues outside the College is permitted.

The current roster is comprised of players mostly from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. These players have all played hockey in their respective communities for most of their lives; some have played at an elite level. While most players are recent high school graduates, open tryouts are held every April for eligible students of any age.

Building a positive and inclusive team culture is the focus of the Rattlers Women’s Hockey program. By developing strong hockey skills and fostering good athletic attitudes, a strong work ethic, and competitive desire, the team strives not only to compete for championships, but also to build lasting friendships in a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for all players.   Rattlers Women’s Hockey looks to become a first-choice post-secondary program for players seeking a superior athletic and educational experience.
